Book Reports
Our 1st Qtr. book report is due on October 8, 2014. Students may choose one project from the list found under the book report tab. The genre is biography/autobiography. The book needs to be sixth grade level, and at least 100 pages.
PROJECTS
Book Test
Prepare a test for the book you read. You need to make a test and a separate answer key, so the test could actually be used by someone. The test must by typed or neatly written! Your test must include the following items:
5 fill in the blank questions
5 matching questions
5 true or false questions
5 essay questions (no answers required)
Each question should be unique and should not be repeated!
Act Out a Scene
This project will bring out your acting ability! Choose an important scene from your book, and practice acting it out. Ask others in the class to help you, since most scenes require more than one person. You may also use props to liven up your scene! Follow this procedure:
1. Tell us the title and author.
2. Tell us what happened just before the scene.
3. Introduce the people and tell what character they are portraying.
4. Act out your scene.
5. Explain why you felt that scene was important.
Book Jacket
This is a creative project! It's your turn to be the illustrator. Create a book jacket for the book you read. "Create" means to make a design of your own; do not copy the cover the book already has! Your book jacket must contain the following items:
front cover: title, author, illustration
spine: title, author
back: summary, quotes
inside: your name
The summary and quotes on the back are to be created by you. Do not copy what is already on the book! The summary should be at least one paragraph in length. A minimum of two quotes is required. The quotes can be made up or you may get someone who has read the book to give you a quote. Here are some examples:
"An exciting tale, filled with adventure!" - John Smith
"I couldn't put it down - it's terrific!" - Susie Jones
Poster
Theaters display posters of current films to attract moviegoers. Music and video stores display posters to attract buyers. For this project, you will create a poster to "sell" your book. Include the following items:
title
author
illustration
summary (at least one paragraph)
Your poster must be at least 12 inches by 18 inches.
A Character Comes to Life
Suppose one of the characters in your chapter book came to life and walked into your home or classroom. This report gives a view of what this character sees, hears, and feels as he or she relates an experience from the story.
1. Introduce yourself as your character.
2. Tell about an experience from the book (from the character's point of view).
3. Dress similar to your character (use props if needed).
Diorama
A model of a scene from the story can be created, or a likeness of one or more of the characters from the story can be drawn or sculpted.
Include:
title
author
three-dimensional illustration
summary of scene or character (at least one paragraph)
Oral Report
This project involves standing in front of the class, and telling us about the book you read. This report should be rehearsed and you should not read it from a piece of paper (note cards are allowed). Be sure to bring your book with you and share the following information:
title
author
plot (what happens in the book)
setting (where and when it happened)
characters (include brief descriptions)
your opinion and why
other books written by the same author
TV Commercial
Imagine that the book you read is the basis for a new show, mini-series, or TV movie. Present to the class a commercial for this new program. Remember, your idea is to get us to watch this show, so grab our attention. Bring your book up with you, tell us the title and the author, and include the following items in your commercial:
characters
plot
setting
If others are needed to help your commercial, ask someone in our class to help!
